Parent Coaching for ADHD Kids and Teens

We provide parent coaching for families of kids and teens with ADHD in Scottsdale, AZ, and online. Our goal is to empower parents with the understanding, tools, and strategies needed to effectively support their child’s growth and emotional well-being. Rather than focusing solely on ADHD symptoms, we help families address the emotional, behavioral, and relational challenges that often accompany the condition—such as frustration, anxiety, defiance, and low self-esteem.

Collaborative Support for the Whole Family

Parent coaching helps caregivers build structure, consistency, and connection at home. Together, we explore what drives your child’s behavior, identify triggers, and create personalized approaches that reduce stress for both parent and child. We also collaborate on communication and discipline strategies that strengthen relationships and promote confidence, focus, and balance.

Evidence-Based Strategies for Positive Change

Our sessions draw from evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Behavior Therapy, and mind-body approaches. Through these, parents learn practical skills to guide their child with empathy and consistency.

Key Areas of Focus (inspired by 48 Parenting Strategies for Kids with ADHD)

  • Establishing predictable routines and clear expectations

  • Using positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors

  • Teaching emotional regulation and frustration tolerance

  • Setting consistent limits with calm, structured discipline

  • Strengthening communication and problem-solving skills

  • Reducing power struggles through collaborative approaches

  • Building motivation and responsibility through goal-setting

  • Supporting executive functioning, focus, and follow-through

  • Creating a calmer, more cooperative home environment

Helping Families Thrive

Our ultimate goal is to help parents feel confident and capable in guiding their child through the ups and downs of ADHD. By strengthening understanding, consistency, and emotional balance, families can create a calmer, more connected, and supportive home environment where both kids and parents thrive.

Parent Coaching for ADHD

Parent coaching is a cornerstone of effective ADHD treatment. Research shows that parent strategies—like structure, positive reinforcement, and predictable routines—are key for managing core ADHD symptoms. Our coaching program equips parents with practical, evidence-based tools to support their child’s focus, behavior, and emotional regulation.

Through parent coaching, families can:

  • Learn effective strategies to manage ADHD behaviors at home and school

  • Create consistent routines and clear expectations for daily life

  • Support emotional regulation and reduce power struggles

  • Strengthen communication and connection with their child

  • Reinforce positive behaviors and celebrate progress

  • Understand ADHD as a difference, not a deficit

Parent coaching can be offered on its own or in combination with child or teen therapy, helping families develop the confidence and structure to thrive.

ADHD Counseling for Kids and Teens

While parent coaching focuses on creating structure and consistency at home, therapy for kids and teens helps young clients build the emotional and social skills they need to navigate everyday challenges.

Through therapy, children and teens can:

  • Improve frustration tolerance and emotional regulation

  • Strengthen focus, problem-solving, and organization

  • Build confidence and self-esteem

  • Enhance communication and social relationships

  • Learn to view ADHD as a unique difference, not a flaw

We use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Behavior Therapy, EMDR, and mind-body techniques to promote self-awareness, balance, and resilience.

Coordinating Care with Medication Providers

Managing ADHD often involves a combination of behavioral strategies and, when appropriate, medication. While we do not prescribe medication, our therapists collaborate closely with your child’s prescriber to ensure coordinated, holistic care. If your family needs a prescriber, we can recommend trusted pediatricians, psychiatrists, and other specialists experienced in ADHD treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can ADHD itself be treated in therapy?
Therapy focuses on the emotional, social, and behavioral impacts of ADHD. Research shows that managing the core symptoms (like attention and impulsivity) is most effective through parent training, structured routines, and school-based strategies. We offer both individual therapy and parent coaching to address these needs comprehensively.

How long does ADHD counseling take?
Each treatment plan is personalized. Some families see improvement in communication and emotional regulation within a few weeks, while others benefit from longer-term support.

Can coaching or therapy be done online?
Yes! We offer secure telehealth sessions for parents, children, and teens across Arizona. Parent coaching works especially well via telehealth, allowing flexibility for busy families.

What will my child work on in therapy?

  • Emotional regulation and frustration tolerance

  • Problem-solving and organization

  • Social and communication skills

  • Confidence and self-esteem

What role do parents play in ADHD treatment?
Parents are central to progress. Our therapists guide parents through proven strategies that help reinforce structure, consistency, and emotional balance at home. In many cases, parent coaching is the most effective starting point for lasting change.

Do you provide ADHD assessments?
We offer brief ADHD screeners to help determine next steps for care. While we don’t conduct full psychological assessments, we can refer families to trusted local clinics for comprehensive testing and IEP-related evaluations.

ADHD Parent Training FAQs

How do I know if our family could benefit from ADHD parent training?
If your child or teen struggles with frustration, emotional ups and downs, impulsivity, or social challenges related to ADHD, parent training can make a significant difference. Our ADHD parent coaching helps families learn effective strategies for structure, communication, and emotional regulation at home—creating more balance and less stress for everyone. Research has found that for the primary symptoms of ADHD, parent training is more helpful than 1:1 therapy with the child. However, 1:1 therapy can still benefit secondary impacts (like social skills, emotional regulation, etc…). Visit this page to learn more about how we support kids with ADHD through 1:1 counseling services.

Can ADHD symptoms be improved through parent training?
Yes. Research consistently shows that parent training is one of the most effective approaches for managing core ADHD symptoms. While therapy helps children work through emotional and social challenges, parent coaching gives caregivers the tools to build consistency, reinforce positive behaviors, and support self-regulation skills in daily life. We guide parents in using evidence-based strategies drawn from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), behavior therapy, and the principles outlined in “48 Parenting Strategies for Kids with ADHD.”

How long does parent training take?
Every family is unique. Some parents notice improvements in structure, cooperation, and emotional balance within a few weeks, while others continue for several months to strengthen consistency and communication patterns. Our parent training workbook covers strategies often implemented over 8–12 weeks, but sessions are always personalized based on your family’s goals and pace.

Can parent training be done online in Arizona?
Yes! We offer secure telehealth parent coaching sessions across Arizona, making it easy for families to access support from home. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person meetings and are ideal for busy parents who want practical tools they can immediately apply at home. We also offer in-person sessions at our Scottsdale, AZ office.

What do parents learn in ADHD parent training?

  • How to create consistent routines and clear expectations

  • Positive reinforcement and natural consequences

  • Strategies for managing frustration and emotional regulation

  • Reducing power struggles and improving cooperation

  • Strengthening communication and connection with your child

  • Building your child’s motivation, confidence, and follow-through

How does parent training fit with ADHD counseling for kids and teens?
Parent training and child therapy work best together. While therapy helps kids and teens develop emotional regulation and coping skills, parent training provides the structure and reinforcement that makes those skills stick. Many families start with parent training to create a strong foundation for change before or alongside their child’s sessions.

How do I choose the right ADHD specialist for parent coaching?
We match each family with a licensed therapist or ADHD coach who specializes in behavior management and family systems. This ensures your training is both evidence-based and personalized to your child’s needs, age, and temperament.
